Plastic Surgery

What is an Plastic surgery?

Plastic surgery is a medical specialty concerned with the correction or restoration of form and function of the body. Though cosmetic or aesthetic surgery is the most well known kind of plastic surgery, plastic surgery is not necessarily cosmetic; and includes many types of reconstructive surgery, craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, microsurgery, and the treatment of burns. Undergoing a plastic surgery has become a trend in certain classes of society, but there are some serious repercussions that have to be considered before going into surgery.

The word "plastic" literally means "to mold", in which one tissue type/ organ is molded to create another tissue type/organ or to provide cover to a nearby or distant area.

Plastic Surgery was originally developed for victims of Congenital deformities, war and trauma to restore lost bodily form and function, now its part and parcel of almost every ones life. In plastic surgery, form & functional restoration is the prime goal, in cosmetic surgery, its cosmetic or aesthetic restoration, but overall, there is always aesthetic or cosmetic component in functional restoration and functional component in aesthetic restoration.

functional competency is the ultimate beauty.

Just because the name includes the word "plastic" doesn't mean patients who have this surgery end up with a face full of fake stuff. The name isn't taken from the synthetic substance but from the Greek word plastikos, which means to form or mold (and which gives the material plastic its name as well).
Plastic surgery is a special type of surgery that can involve both a person's appearance and ability to function. Plastic surgeons strive to improve patients' appearance and self-image through both reconstructive and cosmetic procedures.
